About Us
ORT Colleges Network
The ORT colleges are part of the ORT Israel network, founded in 1949 and consisting of some 252 educational institutions, including seven large colleges for practical engineering and diploma studies and 28 colleges for technological reserve studies (Years 13-14). The network trains thousands of students in fields of science and technology and caters to a wide range of groups in Israeli society in a variety of study tracks and certifications, practical engineering studies, diploma studies, technological preparatory programs and the academic horizon track, which enables practical engineers to complete an academic degree.
The ORT College Network strives to be the preferred choice of students and faculty, to lead excellence and to train the technological future generation of Israel's leading industries. ORT Colleges are designing a curriculum tailored to the needs of industry, in cooperation with government ministries, the IDF, high-tech industries and other leading industries. ORT College graduates are integrated into key positions in the labor market, in both the private and public sectors and as self-employed workers, in many different fields.
The network offers three main study tracks:
Practical engineering studies – Designed for candidates after mational military service, the studies provide graduates with an engineering diploma from the Government Institute for Training in Science and Technology at the Ministry of Economy and Industry, Social Affairs and Social Services (MAHAT). ORT colleges trains about 20% of all practical engineers in Israel's MAHAT tracks.
Studies within the framework of the technological reserves – Designed for 12th-grade graduates wishing to study for an engineering degree before their national military service. The studies provide an engineering diploma from the Ministry of Education and enable working in the profession during their military service. ORT colleges train about 35% of all practical engineers in the technological reserve tracks for the IDF and in general.
Diploma Studies – This unit of the ORT Colleges network offers a variety of courses in design, technology, administration and accounting, paramedical subjects and other continuing education courses.
The network also trains hundreds of practical engineers studying in the "Practical Engineer Direct to Industry" track, designated classes with the promise of job placement upon graduation. In these unique curricula, the study content, format and duration were specially constructed and adapted to the needs of the partner companies and organizations. The "Practical Engineer Direct to Industry" classes operating at ORT Colleges are a winning work model, involving the colleges, industry, the Department of Defense and other organizations that are all mobilized to assure success. Classrooms were opened in cooperation with Intel, El Al, Israel Aerospace Industries, Israel Electric Corporation, Israel Railways, Iscar, Rafael, Elop, Electra, Tnuva, Dan Hotels and more. These collaborations and the professional and quality work that takes place at ORT colleges contribute to the integration of the network's graduates into key positions in leading companies in the Israeli economy.
The lecturers at the ORT Colleges have extensive experience in the theoretical and practical fields, and most of them have Master's and PhD degrees. The teaching staff is very diverse and enables precise matching between the fields of study and the expert lecturers.
